Kayaking in local rivers and streams offers the adventure seeker varying degrees of sport, depending on the time of year and the amount of rainfall. Year 'round boating is possible on Lake Tahoe. Once the majority of the snow melt is gone, the rivers slow down and become navigable in small boats. You can rent rafts on some of the popular routes e.g. the Truckee River (photo below) which drains Tahoe at the northwest corner of the lake - see our Tahoe golf map or our ski map.
If you are using a kayak or canoe, access the lake through any of the numerous marinas or through the Tahoe beaches such as Nevada Beach close to our vacation rentals at Lake Village. There are minor parking fees (e.g. $5 per vehicle) at most beach entrances but no fees for launching a paddle-power watercraft. Cyclists and pedestrians are free. Parasailing services are available at the larger marinas around the lake.
